They are spiral, have a diameter of approx. 10 mm, are between 1.35 and 1.48 mm thick and average 41 mm long. In the past, these fusilli were made by hand, using a method that was transferred from mother to daughter. The spaghetti was wrapped around a knitting needle with a very fast and experienced movement; the dexterity of these women was very reminiscent of that of the spinners, hence the name Fusillo, from Fuso (spindle), just a spinning device.
