The patent was important because it allowed fresh pasta to be cut in the shape of a pen without crushing them, in variable sizes between 3 and 5 centimeters (Mezze Penne or Penne). The document kept in the Central State Archives of Rome states: \"To date, the diagonal cut could only be done with hand scissors, a method that was not only too slow and expensive, but also had the disadvantage of producing an irregular cut and crushing into the pasta\".
